Ballet Athletic Brief

So been away for a while doing a group task at university about trends. Basically my group was given a title and some key words to go with it to create a trend package to present to our tutors. The title was BALLET ATHLETIC with some key words of: EDGE, SPORT, SUBTLE, UNSTRUCTURED LINES. We also had a bland colour palette of greys, blues, nudes and browns. Not much really but it's what we had to work with. Our first thought was Alexander Wang H&M collection which is sporty but also tight fitting and grey but contained a lot of black. We researched into ballet both romantic and contemporary and came to the conclusion that contemporary was more our thing. We had to come up with a trend board on our studio wall of research we had come up with for a potential shoot or two. Another factor that we first thought about was the new SIA video for elastic heart because of the recognition of dance and relationship between male and female which went well as we was showing both male and female clothing.
After we had come up with different things that reminded us of the words we had been given the group had to start thinking about what our shoot was going to look like. We had to also take into consideration makeup and hair, for the hair the girls and I decided that the best thing to do would be braids and a bun (by this point the decision was two shoots not one) as this represents the two types of sport/activities we were meant to be looking into but also using them because people have their hair like that day-to-day.
With the makeup it was quite easy to fit with our colour palette of brown and greys because the group was thinking of keeping it very natural to show the athletic side as people don't do exercise in makeup, or with hair in their face for that matter ( reason for braids and buns)
After debating on some design ideas for makeup I created some mock ups on illustrator baring in mind this was the first time I had done digital mac faces.

When doing the shoot we had a great time doing hair and makeup getting the male and female model ready. I brought my camera so all the photos taken were my own work and some actually came out really well which helped the group. Some of the first edits came out really well.

We used for this shoot:
FEMALE
- Grey Alexander Wang scuba top - H&M
- Blue high neck scuba cropped jumper - H&M
- Black gym cropped leggings with slits - Primark
- Grey trainers - Primark
-Black and white money crop top - This Is A Love Song

MALE
-Black scuba jacket - Zara
-Black mesh shorts - Primark
-White Mesh Top - Topman
-Cream mesh string vest - Topman
- Black and white Adidas trainers - Adidas

During our second shoot we had a ballerina around and about in some places stretching and going on pointe just to show the ballerina side as there wasn't much but the bandages relevant to ballet in the previous shoot.

We also then put together a small trend package with final images in and a some style guides in to complete the task.
The task was a really good one and the outcomes we had as a group were really good too, we did a fab presentation and the tutors loved it, first triumph for uni yey!
